In 2016, Microsoft unified its different systems and made them a part of a Microsoft Dynamics 365 applications family and adjusted their names. Hence, “Microsoft Dynamics AX” became “Microsoft Dynamics for Finance and Operations”, and “Microsoft Dynamics NAV” became “Microsoft Dynamics Business Central”.
Now, when all the different systems are unified into a single Dynamics 365 platform, Microsoft announced one more important change in Dynamics 365 application structure. Caring for users, the change makes it easier for companies to choose the right modules according to their business needs. Thus, “Microsoft Dynamics for Finance and Operations” is separated into two different applications “Dynamics 365 Finance” and “Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management”. Microsoft promises it will offer more flexibility when adopting different capabilities for different businesses.
From now on, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance is designed to automate and modernize your financial operations, reduce operational expenses and decrease global financial complexity and risks. Also, it involves insights and suggestions provided by artificial intelligence (AI). Read more.
Alternatively, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management system’s main goal is to transform your manufacturing and supply chain operations. Combined with predictive insights and intelligence from AI and the Internet of Things (IoT), it maximizes operational efficiency, product quality, and profitability. This, of course, changes the licensing as well. Therefore, these two applications are now licensed and priced separately.
